Filling Station Competition
Combo Competitions presented this competition feeling nostalgic for a bygone area when the gas station was fueling a future ripe with possibility. These beacons of opportunity have since declined into the economic minutia of everyday life often left as unappealing scabs in our urban and rural environments. Coinciding with a surge in alternative fuels and a growing environmental conscience, Combo Competitions wanted to rethink the fueling station.
dean alan architects responded to this challenge by designing an adaptable and universally recognizable fueling center composed of modules. The distinctive roof acts as both a brand identifier and channel for harvesting water. Utilizing indigenous materials and raised walkways also ensure that customers are connected to the surrounding environment while leaving as small an impact as possible.
Reimagining the fueling station and critically evaluating the impact of the built environment is crucial to a richer more sustainable world.
