Flat Lot Competition
Using a central parking lot dubbed "Flat Lot," the City of Flint, Michigan sought to create a new center and symbol for the city, an attraction for regional visitors, and a site that amplifies the many existing events that help define the rich cultural life present.
Inspired by spokes radiating outward from a hub dean alan architects accepted the challenge and designed a concept that would serve as the center of Flint's art and cultural activities. Using connecting modular units the concept is flexible to meet the unique needs for a particular day whether that is a concert or market during the weekend or parking during business hours.
These modular units combine to create forms that meet these needs while being attractive visual centers. This adaptable quality is significant to the design because it is reflective of the city's beauty and ingenuity today.
